The Victoria Vikes got the better of the University of the Fraser Valley men's basketball team for a second straight day, topping the Cascades 85-74.
The Cascades, coming offÂ
a 78-62 loss on Friday, showed improvement in the rematch, and were level at 31-31 at the half.
The Vikes, though, had an outstanding third quarter, pushing the lead to double digits (66-55) at the end of the third quarter, and they were able to keep UFV at arm's length in the fourth quarter.
"We got better, and that was the goal coming in," Cascades head coach
Joe Enevoldson said afterward. "Learning to play back-to-back in Canada West is a tough process, but we did a better job tonight. We made a few adjustments, and we competed well against a team we believe to be a top-10 team in the country. The guys played with great resolve.
"It was 31-31 at the half, but our third quarter let us down again. We have to come out in the second half with more purpose."
Fourth-year swingman
Jordyn Sekhon paced the Cascades with 17 points, and
Kyle Claggett (15) and
Dylan Kinley (14) also scored in double figures.
Vick Toor stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Matthew Ellis had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Scott Kellum (15), Diego Maffia (13) and Dominick Oliveri (10) were the Vikes' other double-digit scorers.
