CALGARY, AB – A rocky game for the Cascades, a ferocious one for the Cougars.
The Mount Royal University Cougars men's volleyball team completed the weekend sweep over the University of Fraser Valley Cascades with their second straight 3-0 win (25-17, 25-16, 25-16).
Set one showed the Kenyon Court faithful Mount Royal's attacking depth, as Samson Olsen found a connection with his middle-blockers Luis Lange and Cody Boulding who put down a combined seven kills in the first set.
Fraser Valley pushed back in the second as Cascades setter
Silas Van Huizen fed
Caleb Kastelein consistently with mixed results. The MRU blocking force held strong with Kastelein and
Jonas Van Huizen chipping away at the Cougars' lead.
The story of the game continued to be the success of Mount Royal's middles. After three victorious sets, Cody Boulding and Luis Lange possessed an incredible .917 hitting percentage.
Chris Byam's 12 kills closed out the final set, and the Cougars improved their record to 12-6, while UFV dropped to 5-11.
The Cascades are back in action next week to take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a pair of matches in Saskatoon. Both events can be seen live on Canada West TV.
"We need to get back to the drawing board with hopefully a full week of practices this week to prepare for Saskatchewan," said Cascades head coach
Nathan Bennett. "We're looking forward to them next week."
