Saskatoon, SK – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies came up with a three-set victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) on Friday afternoon in Saskatoon.
The loss drops the Cascades to 5-12 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 11-6.
How it Happened
With the teams tied at 10 in the opening set, an ace from Saskatchewan's Noah Opseth was followed up by two from Isaiah Mamer to take a 16-11 lead. Three kills and an ace from Jefferson Morrow put the set out of reach.
The Huskies held a 16-13 advantage in the second until two kills from
Jonas Van Huizen, and an ace from
Ryan Adams levelled it at 16. However, the Huskies continued to push and found a 7-2 run to make it 23-18 before an Emmett Graham kill finished it off.
Two kills from Mamer, and an ace from Jacob Baird gave the Huskies a 12-6 lead in the third, and they would not look back, closing out the match 25-16.
Top performers:
Jonas Van Huizen led the Cascades with 10 kills, while
Ryan Adams added seven kills and an ace for UFV.
Mamer led the way for Saskatchewan with 18 kills and two aces, while Noah Opseth finished with 40 set assists.
