Box Score Saskatoon, SK – The UFV Cascades came out strong, but the University of Saskatchewan Huskies battled back to outlast the Cascades in a four-set match (14-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday.Â
The loss drops the Cascades to 5-13 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 12-6.Â
How it Happened
The Cascades found success blocking early, collecting five blocks as a team including three by
Silas Van Huizen, and an ace finished off the set 25-14.
A Jacob Baird kill gave the Huskies a 17-12 lead in the third, but the Cascades battled to keep it close. A kill by
Ryan Adams was followed up by a kill and an ace by
Silas Van Huizen to cut the deficit to just one point. However, a timeout by Saskatchewan led to a kill by Joshua Thorsen to take it 25-23.
The teams were tied at nine in the third, before a pair of runs from the Huskies made it 15-10 and truned that into a 25-17 set win.Â
An Emmett Graham kill made it 7-2 in the fourth, as the Huskies went on to close out the match.Â

Silas Van Huizen led the way for the Cascades with five blocks, two aces, and 33 assists in the match, while
Jonas Van Huizen led the Cascades with 12 kills and four blocks.
Ryan Adams added eight kills, and
Kyle Cook finished with five kills while hitting .444 in the match.
Jefferson Morrow and Emmett Graham each had 16 kills for the Huskies, while Noah Opseth finished with 55 assists. Â

"I thought we executed the game plan really well in that first set, but it got away from us a bit in the later sets. But that's a part of what we have to learn - to sustain through a full match. We have been really good in chunks, but a sustained level of execution has proven to be difficult."
