WSOC: Lyon and Dhaliwal connect twice as Cascades secure draw against TRU

Abbotsford, BC – Camryn Lyon and Jasdeep Dhaliwal connected twice on corner kicks in the second half to see the UFV Cascades earn a point against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Friday at Rotary Stadium.

After falling behind twice in the game, the Cascades battled back to improve their record to 2-5-2 with the result, while TRU moves to 3-5-2 on the year.

How it happened:
TRU struck first, capitalizing after a UFV clearance in the 33rd minute. Alexis Virgo sent the ball right back into the box where Esi Lufo was able to loop a header over Alana Madec in the Cascades goal.

The Cascades answered back in the 67th minute. After some sustained pressure, Lyon sent in a corner kick and Dhaliwal was first to react, as she powered a header of her own into the net.

With 10 minutes to play, Kat Stewart took advantage of a good bounce to put TRU back on top. After a dangerous chance from Juli La Rotta was stopped Addy Chen in the Cascades goal, Stewart managed to step in front of a UFV defender's clearance, and the ball bounced off the second-year forward and in.

With time winding down, it was Lyon and Dhaliwal connecting on an almost identical corner kick to tie the game up once again in the 85th minute.

Emerson Toop had a late chance for the Cascades to win it, but the rookie's shot attempt was saved by the TRU goalkeeper diving to the left, and the game finished level at two apiece.

Notable:
Dhaliwal's two goal performance also happened to be her first two career Canada West goals.

Lyon's two assists were also the first assists of her Canada West Career.

Quotable:
UFV head coach Ari Adams

"We had lots of momentum going forward. Ultimately both us and TRU needed a win to make it easier on ourselves, but we had lots of good performances and lots of push from younger players, and for Jas [Dhaliwal] to come in and score two headers was massive.

I'm glad we got the point. We worked hard enough, but we let in a couple of poor goals as well."
