MVB: Strong serving from Sarich and Van Huizen leads Cascades to weekend sweep of TRU

Abbotsford B.C. – Easton Sarich had five aces, and Jonas Van Huizen added four, as the UFV Cascades took down the TRU WolfPack in four sets for the second straight night.

The Cascades defeated the WolfPack by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 26-28, 25-19, to move to 2-6 on the season, while TRU falls to 2-4 this season.

How It happened:
The Cascades came out flying in the opening set, getting a seven-serve run from Jonas Van Huizen, that included two aces, as they got out to an 8-1 lead. UFV carried that advantage through, and kills from Van Huizen and Nimo Benne closed it out 25-20.

Two more Van Huizen aces early in the second put the Cascades up 5-1, but TRU stormed back to tie it up through the middle of the set. UFV eked out a 24-22 advantage after a Ryan Hampe kill and block, and another Benne kill sealed it 25-23.

The Cascades had a 20-15 lead in the third after another good start, but a late TRU surge allowed them to tie it up at 23. The teams traded points, but a block from Gavin Margerison and Dylan Annala proved decisive to take it 28-26.

That was as close as TRU would get however, as the Cascades pulled away in the fourth set, going up 22-13 before closing it out 25-19.

Notable:
Benne had a team-high 16 kills, while Roan McCarthy added 11. Jonas Van Huizen posted five kills, 34 assists, and four aces from the setter spot in the match. Easton Sarich posted five aces and just one error in the match.

Sam Flowerday led the WolfPack with 16 kills, while Rylan Ibbetson had 12, and Matthew Hamilton had eight.

Quotable:
Cascades middle Tyson Ardell

"It was one of the first weekends when we felt like one cohesive team, and it was a really good feeling on the court with lots of positivity and keeping guys up. I think our focus and intensity level was really consistent and that's what got us the win."

"One thing we have been talking about is wanting to see a compete level. More than just making good volleyball plays here and there, we want to see the fire in the eyes and the compete level and the rest will take care of itself. We have to want it more than the other team. We are good enough volleyball players that we can beat anyone, we just have to have that compete."

"We have to rest up , recover our bodies, and prepare for a battle with UBCO."

What's Next:
The Cascades head to Kelowna next week for a weekend set with the UBC Okanagan Heat to close out the first semester of action.
