MVB: Cascades fall in three to the Heat despite resilient effort

Kelowna BC – The Cascades lose opening game of series in three sets against UBC Okanagan Heat Friday night in Kelowna.

The Cascades move to 2-7 while the Heat are now 5-2

How It Happened:

The Cascades and the Heat went back and forth for almost every point in the first set.  Seba Manuel had two kills for the Heat and an attack error from UFV brought the score to 23-19.  Jack Taylor then added two more kills for the Heat allowing them to take the set 25-21.

Both teams remained in constant battle for the lead throughout the second set. The Heat then pulled away late with a kill from Lucas Woelders making it 22-20.  The Heat continued their run of points and Taylor once again finished off the set 25-21 with a kill.

The Heat took a slightly earlier lead 13-10 midway of the second set, as Lucas Woelders had back-to-back kills.  The Cascades then remained chasing in points due to multiple personal errors.  For a third time, Taylor grabbed the final kill, and the Heat finished off the Cascades 25-19.

Notable:

Jonas Van Huizen led the Cascades with nine kills and 14 assists.

Jack Taylor led the game with 10 kills for the Heat while Zach Van Geel had 26 assists.

Quotable:
Head Coach Nathan Bennett

"The effort was there, our execution was not.  Credit to UBCO for a well-played game.  Hopefully tomorrow we can find another level to compete."
