WVB: Adams shines as Cascades defeat WolfPack in five sets

Abbotsford, BC – Ryan Adams came up with one of his best performances, as the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades came out on top in a five-set battle (16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-27, 15-11) with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Friday night at the UFV Athletic Centre.

The Cascades improve to 6-13 with the win, while TRU drops to 9-10 on the season.

How it Happened
After TRU controlled the opening set, the teams battled point-for-point in the second. With the score 23-22 for the visitors, UFV's Tyson Ardell got involved with three straight blocks to take the set 25-23.

Adams found an ace and two kills early in the third to help UFV take a 15-10 lead in the set, before another Adams ace and a block set up a Jonas Van Huizen kill to end the set and give the Cascades a two sets to one lead.

UFV looked to try to close it out in the fourth, but the teams once again went blow for blow to eventually find themselves level at 24. After the teams traded service errors, TRU took the next point and followed it up with a Sam Flowerday kill to force a fifth set.

Kills by Flowerday and Matthew Hamilton put TRU up 3-1, but the Cascades found a massive response. Five kills from Jonas Van Huizen in the next 10 points gave UFV a 9-5 lead, and after the teams traded shots kills by Adams and Van Huizen closed out the match.

Quotable:

"With this being my last year, I only have three weeks left, and I want to go out with a bang and show that my career was something, and I had fun doing it. This one today was very special to me, and I'll definitely remember it for a long time."

"I can thank Nathan Bennett for the blocks. The whole week he's been on me about blocking. I think today just clicked, and I'm super happy with how I blocked, so I just have to give him all the credit for that one."

"Tomorrow is another big game – It's another chance to get a big win and climb the standings. Calgary is just one win ahead of us now, so we want to get up there and overtake them. It's a big day tomorrow, and I know all the guys are going to be excited and fired up for it."
