Emily Matsui picked up her 1000
th career Canada West dig on Saturday, as the UFV Cascades swept the University of Calgary Dinos 25-13, 25-19, 25-20 at the UFV Athletic Centre.
The USPORTS No. 2 ranked Cascades improve to 11-1 on the season with the win, while Calgary drops to 3-11 on the campaign.
How it happened:
The Cascades jumped out to an early lead as kills from
Lauren Attieh and
Alicja Hardy-Francis made it 15-7 in the opening set. UFV cruised for the rest of the set, and a
Mo Likness block finished off the frame, 25-13.
Lauren Attieh picked up a kill and two straight aces in the second to put UFV up 20-11 in the second, and despite a push from Calgary another
Lauren Attieh ace closed out the set.
Talia Attieh scored a pair of aces early in the third, as the Cascades raced out to a 7-3 lead. Hardy-Francis and
Talia Attieh combined on a block to go up 16-8 in the middle portion of the set. Calgary would push back, cutting the lead to just two late in the set, but
Lauren Attieh served out the last couple points of the match finishing it off with another ace.
Notable:
Emily Matsui finished the game with 14 digs, putting her to 1010 in her career – good for 23
rd all-time in Canada West history.
Lauren Attieh posted 11 kills and four aces on the night, while
Talia Attieh added 10 kills and four aces of her own.

"I usually only look at the season stats, so I had no idea until yesterday, but I think it's really cool. It just shows that it's not just myself – it's everyone else who puts me in that position to succeed. We all work very hard, and everyone helps me get better every day. So it's really cool for me, and also a testament to our team.
