For the second consecutive season, the UFV Cascades men's soccer team will take on the University of Calgary Dinos in the first round of the Canada West Playoffs at UBC. 

The Cascades prevailed in that match last season, claiming victory in a penalty shootout, to advance to the conference semi-final where they fell in extra-time to the eventual national champion UBC Thunderbirds. Now, after posting a 7-4-4 record in the regular season, UFV will be looking to push past a tough Calgary team and earn a semifinal berth against either UBC or Alberta.

Goalkeeper Matheus De Souza and the Cascades have allowed just 17 goals against on the season, posting six shutouts. Meanwhile, the Dinos allowed just 19 goals, largely because they don't give up many chances: opponents fired just 54 shots on Calgary's goalkeepers this season, second fewest in the conference. But now the Dinos must contend with Canada West's most prolific finisher, Cascades forward Mateo Brazinha, who totalled a conference-leading 13 goals.

Beyond Brazinha, this match will showcase a number of skilled scorers from UFV, with Kevin Mailand and Michael Beecroft each in the conference's top-10 for scoring on the season. Only three Canada West teams averaged at least two goals per game this season, and Calgary and UFV are two of them.

While the Dinos and Cascades did not meet during the regular season, they played to a 1-1 draw in an exhibition match in Kelowna on Aug. 14.
