Victoria, BC – An early goal from
Kyle Torresan gave the UFV Cascades a lead, but a second half goal from the Victoria Vikes saw the teams finish Friday night's match in a draw.
Just days after the Cascades were named to the U SPORTS national top-10 for the first time in program history, they earned the result against another nationally ranked team with the No. 10 ranked Cascades moving to 5-3-2 with the draw, while the No. 8 ranked Vikes went to 5-3-2.
How it Happened:
Kyle Torresan got on the scoresheet in the sixth minute, when he met a
Kevin Mailand cross with his head before glancing it into the left corner.
The Vikes found their equalizer 14 minutes into the second half when Evan Larsson played a one-touch through ball to Rees Goertzen, who chipped it over an onrushing goalkeeper, and it would just cross the line before a Cascades defender could get to it.
Notable:
The goal was Torresan's second of the season.
The Cascades are now undefeated in their past eight matches.
UFV now sits in fourth place in the Canada West pacific division, just five points from clinching a post-season berth.
Up Next:
The Cascades travel to Kelowna on Sunday for another critical matchup with the UBC Okanagan Heat. A Cascades win, and fortunate results elsewhere could see the team clinch a playoff place as early as Sunday.
