WSOC: Cascades fall to Heat as pacific division playoff picture tightens

Victoria, BC – The UBC Okanagan Heat claimed a 3-0 victory on Sunday over the UFV Cascades, in what could be a pivotal result with Canada West playoff positioning still undecided.

The loss drops the Cascades to 3-6-3 on the season, as they maintain a hold on the fourth and final playoff spot in the division, just three points ahead of Victoria. Meanwhile, UBCO improves to 2-6-2 to pull them back into the playoff fight.

How it Happened:
UBCO's Maria Georgacacos was sent on a break by Eleni Georgacacos in the 36th minute and, after taking a touch, slipped her shot past an onrushing Alana Madec in the UFV net and into the left side of the goal to open the scoring.

A second half free kick from Megan Sun doubled the lead for UBCO in the 60th when her shot sailed perfectly into the top right corner out of the reach of the Cascades keeper.

Just three minutes later, Sun would fire home her second of the game from the penalty spot after a Cascades foul was called during a corner kick.

Up Next:
The Cascades now head into their bye week before returning to action to face Trinity Western on Oct 23, and Victoria on Oct 25.
