WSOC: Madec shutout leads to scoreless draw with Vikes as Cascades earn crucial point in playoff race

Victoria, BC – A battle between two teams fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Canada West pacific division saw the UFV Cascades and Victoria Vikes share the points in a scoreless draw on Friday night.

The result sees the Cascades (3-5-3) remain in that playoff position while retaining a three-point lead over the Vikes (1-2-6). Victoria however has two games in hand over UFV down the stretch.

How it Happened:
Victoria threatened early with a chance from the top of the box from Brianne McLeish, but UFV's Alana Madec made the diving save to her right. Just moments later, Madec would stop McLeish again after charging out to the top of her area.

After the opening chances both teams struggled to find clear cut opportunities, until an Eesha Mudaliar free kick in the 82nd minute gave UFV their best chance of the match. Her strike from roughly thirty yards out struck the crossbar solidly before being cleared away.

Notable:
Madec's fourth shutout of the season matches the third highest single-season mark in program history, while also giver her eight for her career to tie Emily Harold for third all-time in the program record books.

Up Next:
The Cascades travel to Kelowna on Sunday for another critical matchup with the UBC Okanagan Heat, where three points can put UFV one step closer to a Canada West playoff spot.
