MSOC: Disappointment for Cascades as they close out opening week of season with 1-0 loss to TRU

Kamloops, BC – The UFV Cascades saw their record fall to 0-2 at the end of their opening weekend, as they fell 1-0 to the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack (2-0) on Saturday afternoon in Kamloops.

A 39th minute marker from Kaelin Nguyen secured the win for the WolfPack in their only shot on goal in the game, while UFV created numerous chances but are left still searching for their first goal of the season.

How it Happened:
Ryan Torresan had the first real chance of the game for either team, as his shot from 35 yards forced a diving save from TRU's Matteo Lamon in the 13th minute.

TRU was awarded a goal in the 39th minute when, after some extended pressure forced five consecutive corner kicks, a ball in from Alessandro Comita was met by Kailin Nguyen in the area. It looked to be cleared off the goal line by Ebi Igali, but the officials deemed it to have edged across to the chagrin of the Cascades.

Torresan would find another opportunity for UFV early in the second half, but his volley attempt would be saved and smothered by Lamon.

After a couple of great headed chances went wide for the Cascades, they would find perhaps their best chance in the 77th minute. Mateo Brazinha would break in toward goal, but Lamon would come rushing out to block the ball off the striker's foot before parrying away the rebound chance from Joaquim Dharamsi as well.

UFV would see a few more chances late in the match but were unable to provide the finish needed to equalize.

A stoppage time melee ensued after a hard tackle from UFV's Aidan Fitzgerald, and after all the dust was settled, red cards were issued to both Fitzgerald and TRU's Lewis Crompton.

Notable:
UFV out chanced TRU 14-5, with shots on goal finishing 5-1in favour of the Cascades.

Up Next:
UFV will continue their road swing to start the season with a match against their rivals from Trinity Western on Friday September 4, before travelling up to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday. Meanwhile TRU will take on Trinity Western and UBC Okanagan next week.
