Langley, BC – The UFV Cascades struck early and often, as they got goals from
Marcus D'Andrea,
Kyle Torresan, and
Mateo Brazinha, while
Matheus De Souza kept a clean sheet In goal to pick up their first victory of the season 4-0 over their rival Trinity Western Spartans.
The win sees UFV move to 1-2 on the season, while TWU falls to 1-3 so far.
How it Happened:
D'Andrea found the breakthrough for the Cascades in the 15th minute, as his in swinging corner kick took a small deflection on it's way into the back of the TWU goal for UFV's first goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, the Cascades would strike again off a corner kick. A
Spencer Mellett delivery bounced to
Kevin Mailand in the box, who deftly flicked a back heel to the head of
Kyle Torresan. The defender would make no mistake from there nodding it over a sprawling keeper to double the UFV lead.
Reigning U SPORTS player of the year,
Mateo Brazinha, would get off the mark for the season early in the second half. D'Andrea picked up a pass from De Souza, and picked out an inch perfect long ball to spring Brazinha on a break. The striker rounded the keeper before calmly slotting home his first of the year into the empty net.
Brazinha doubled his tally in the 56th, as he burst past a defender before chipping the ball past TWU keeper Jakob Frank to make it 4-0. The Cascades would cruise from there for their first win of the year.

UFV outshot TWU 10-5 in the match, with shots on target being 5-3.
