Abbotsford, BC - Goals from
Emerson Toop, and
Kyla Kerr boosted the UFV Cascades women's soccer team past the UNBC Timberwolves 2-0 on Friday at Rotary Stadium.
The result brings the Cascades to 2-2-1 on the season, while UNBC fall to 0-5.
How it happened :
The Cascades and Timberwolves battled for possession for much of the opening half until UFV's
Jaidyn Jackson found
Emerson Toop who broke free up the left wing and slipped the ball between the keepers legs to put her team on the board in the 38th minute.
Going into the second half UNBC put more pressure into UFV's defensive line, as they pushed to tie up the game. Chances were there for both sides with UNBC coming close during the 85th minute when a header appeared to tie the match, but was disallowed for offside.
In the 88th minute of the game, UFV's
Rayna Lally, a first-year winger, picked out a pass to
Kyla Kerr to spring her on a breakaway, and she made no mistake finding the back of the net for her first Canada West goal.
Playing for the first time this season after a preseason injury, UFV's
Addy Chen made a diving save in the last dying moments of the game to secure the clean sheet, and the win, 2-0.
Notable :
UFV extended their current win streak against UNBC to seven. As well as putting UFV one point behind both TRU and TWU in the Canada West pacific division standings.
Emerson Toop's first half goal was her first of the season.

Kyla Kerr notched her first career Canada West goal with her late insurance marker.
