Abbotsford, BC - The UFV Cascades got goals from
Ebi Igali,
Spencer Mellett,
Ryan Torresan, and
Nathan Cervo as they picked up a 4-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves on Friday at Rotary Stadium.
The win sees teh Cascades improve to 3-3-1 in the standings, while UNBC continues to search for their first win at 0-2-3.
How it happened :
The match opened up with chances both ways, but it was UFV's Igali that struck first, directing a deep
Marcus D'Andrea corner kick into the goal.
Spencer Mellett doubled the advantage for the Cascades before the end of the first half.
Mateo Brazinha burst past his defender on the left side before crossing it to Mellett in the area, and the midfielder buried his first goal with UFV.
The Cascades continued to cause problems in the second half, as
Kevin Mailand drew a penalty kick after being taken down by a UNBC defender.
Ryan Torresan stepped up to take it for UFV, and despite the keeper getting a hand to it, the ball slipped into the right upper corner past Owen Shum in the 55th minute.
UNBC pressed for a goal in the late stages, but it wasn't enough as UFV's
Dante Colebourne was able to break through their defensive line in tight space and find
Nathan Cervo for an open chance. Cervo made no mistake, capping off the Cascades win.
Notable:
Cervo, and Mellett both picked up their first goals of the season, with the latter also finding his first goal as a member of the Cascades. Mellett has now scored three times in four matches against UNBC split between his time with UBCO and now with UFV.

Matheus De Souza picked up his second clean sheet of the season, giving him eight in his career. That leaves him in sole posssesion of the fourth most in UFV men's soccer history, and just three short of the program record held by Mark Village.
