Toor honoured as Canada West athlete of the week

Vick Toor of the University of the Fraser Valley men's basketball team stuffed the stat sheet over the weekend, and his all-around efforts have subsequently been recognized by the Canada West conference.

The fourth-year Cascade from Kent, Wash. has been named the Canada West men's basketball athlete of the week after guiding his team to back-to-back homecourt wins to open the regular season.

On Friday, Toor poured in a game-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field (including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc) and added nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block as the Cascades blitzed the UBC Okanagan Heat 85-63.

On Saturday, the veteran floor general continued to elevate his team in a number of facets, racking up 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, six steals and two blocks as the Cascades outlasted the UNBC Timberwolves 95-93 in overtime.

The 6'0" point guard emerged from the weekend leading Canada West in steals (4.5 per game) and ranking top-10 in scoring (19.0, T-10th), assists (6.0, second), blocks (1.5, T-fourth) and rebounds (9.0, ninth) on a per-game basis.

Remarkably, this is the third time Toor has been recognized with a Canada West weekly award in his UFV career. He was the second star of the week (across all men's sports) in January 2019, and reprised that same award in February 2020.

Toor and the Cascades (2-0) are on the road this weekend, facing the UBC Thunderbirds in a Friday-Saturday set (webcasts at CanadaWest.tv presented by Co-op).
