NEED TO KNOW

Per new COVID-19 regulations for Fraser Valley East, proof of double-vaccination will be required to enter Rotary Stadium. Fans should be prepared to show their BC Vaccine Card and photo ID.

EVENTS

In conjunction with the games, the Cascades are holding a pair of events:

• Warm winter clothing drive – Bring your gently used coats, toques, mitts, scarves and/or blankets to the game, and they will be collected for distribution to UFV students in need through the Student Union Society.
• Oktoberfest MVB/MBB fundraiser – The Cascades men's volleyball and basketball teams are hosting an Oktoberfest event on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Legacy Sports Centre, located at the east edge of Rotary Stadium. The event will feature live music from The Oktoberators and food from Old Bavaria House, and is sponsored by Parkside Brewery and the UFV Alumni Association. Tickets are $60, and can be purchased here.

THE MATCH-UP

The Cascades are in search of their first win of the campaign, and if it's to happen this weekend, it must come at the expense of perennial powerhouse UBC. The Thunderbirds are the only Canada West squad in the U SPORTS national rankings, checking in at No. 9.

RECENT FORM

The Cascades have shown an ability to defend, while the results at the offensive end of the pitch have been slower to materialize. They're coming off a loss and a draw at TWU last weekend.

The Thunderbirds have one win and a trio of draws from their four conference games to date. They were on the wrong end of an epic comeback last Saturday, as the UNBC Timberwolves scored three times in the last seven minutes of regulation (plus extra time) to erase a 3-0 deficit.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Taylor Richardson, UFV – The fourth-year transfer from Douglas College has made an early impact as a Cascade, bagging multiple goals in the preseason and scoring the team's first of the regular season last Saturday at Trinity Western.

Jackson Farmer, UBC – The fourth-year defender anchors the Thunderbirds' backline, and will be tasked with slowing Richardson and Co. this weekend.

QUOTABLE

"We know that throughout their whole 18, they're really strong and have quality all around. I think after a game like that (vs. UNBC Saturday), they'll be looking to bounce back. It would be a good fight no matter what. It always is with them. We're looking forward to getting our first games at Rotary, and we're excited to show well and compete as hard as we can." – Cascades captain Ryan Donald, on what he expects from UBC this weekend

"Taylor's goal last Saturday was huge for us. It seems like when you're having difficulties scoring goals or it's not going in the back of the net the way you'd like it to, you're just looking for a bit of luck. Thankfully we got one last weekend, and we're looking to build on that this weekend and hopefully start banging them in." – Donald, on what his team needs to do to open the floodgates offensively
