The UFV Cascades men's and women's golf team each finished third this week, as they hosted the Northwest Matchplay on Monday and Tuesday at the Chilliwack Golf Club.
The University of Victoria men's team took home the event win, defeating Simon Fraser 3-2 in the final round, while SFU's women's team defeated UBC Okanagan 3-2 to claim the top spot.
On Monday, the men's matches saw the Cascades pick up one win and one tie out of five in round one, before coming away with two wins and a draw in the second round. Two wins and three losses in round three rounded out the competition for UFV.
Eli Greene, and
Brett Bateman each produced standout rounds during the event. Greene carded an albatross with a two on the par five ninth hole, to put him at seven under par at that point and send him on his way to close out his second-round match 5&4 against Victoria's Owen Croft. Bateman followed up with a stunning front nine in his third-round match, shooting eight under par through nine holes and picking up the win over UBCO's Carl Arndt 7&6.
UFV's women's team picked up just a single win in the opening round before bouncing back to claim three match victories in round two. Two more wins in round three was not quite enough to land in the top two as they missed out on the final matches finishing third.
Morgan Best, and
Coral Hamade led the way for UFV's women's squad, picking up two wins out of three matches each.
