Preview: Cascades basketball teams return home to face UBC / Volleyball teams brace for massive meeting with TRU

The UFV Cascades men's and women's basketball teams return home to take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday and Saturday, while the volleyball teams travel to Kamloops to face the TRU WolfPack in an important weekend set.

Friday's games at UFV will have tip-off times of 11am and 1pm with local area schools in attendance for the annual school day game. All four games on Friday and Saturday will be available to watch live on Canada West TV, while UFV students and staff get free admission to each of the team's home games.

Women's Volleyball
  • The 7-5 Cascades hit the road to take on the 11-3 Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday and Saturday in Kamloops. The teams are yet to meet this season, but UFV has won the past 10 meetings between the two sides in Canada West play.
  • UFV leads the conference with 2.52 aces per set.
  • TRU sits third in the conference with 12.66 kills per set, while UFV is sixth at 11.67.
  • UFV's Lauren Attieh is just 58 kills shy of 1,000 in her Canada West career. The most in Cascades program history.
Men's Volleyball
  • Still searching for their first win of the season, the Cascades (0-12) travel to Kamloops to take on the TRU WolfPack (4-10). The Cascades have won three of their last four matches against the WolfPack in Canada West play.
  • Cascades libero Yahia Elsayed leads Canada West with 2.29 digs per set this season.
Men's Basketball
  • The UFV Cascades (9-6) return home to take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday and Saturday at the UFV Athletic Centre. UFV ranks sixth in conference scoring at 80.4 points per game, while UBC ranks second with 86.4. The two teams met to open the season in October, with UBC claiming the win 85-67.
Women's Basketball
  • The UFV Cascades (8-7), host the UBC Thunderbirds (10-4) for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. UFV comes in having won six out of their last seven games, while UBC is riding a five-game win streak of their own. The two teams faced off in the opening game of the season with UBC winning 71-47.
  • Julia Tuchscherer is just two blocks shy of 150 for her career – a mark only reached by 10 players in U SPORTS/ CIS history.
