The first batch of CCAA national volleyball rankings were released Tuesday, adding a bit of spice to this weekend's UFV-Camosun match-up.

The Cascades check in at No. 7, but they're looking up at the No. 4 Chargers – and with a win or two this weekend, they could expect to move upward. Both teams have two losses on their ledgers, but all of those losses have come against the No. 1-ranked Vancouver Island University Mariners.

"They've proven to be really competitive against some of the historically top teams in our league," UFV head coach Janelle Rozema said of the Chargers. "We just have to make sure we come in prepared and not take them likely. We're excited to play them in our home space in our first games against them this season, drawing on that home-court atmosphere. But we're always on a mission of constant improvement – we're getting better every week, and I expect we'll be even better this weekend."

Players to watch: Cascades sophomore middle Sedona Arabsky is the reigning PACWEST women's volleyball athlete of the week after posting 17 kills in a pair of wins over College of the Rockies without registering a single hitting error. She ranks 12th in the league in total offence, averaging 2.64 points per set, and 13th in blocks (0.27/set). The Chargers have a standout middle of their own in fourth-year Megan Ireland – she's sixth in the PACWEST in kills (2.70/set) and eighth in total offence (3.10 points/set).
