THE TEAMS
UFV rebounded after a 1-0 loss to the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on Friday to knock off the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-0 on Sunday.
The Vikes have struggled to open the season, as a draw to start the year against UBCO has been followed up by three consecutive losses. The Cascades will be looking for a bit of redemption, as the last time these two teams met UFV fell 5-0 to Victoria in the 2021 Canada West Final Four Semifinal.
The Cascades' Saturday opponent, UBC has had much the same start to the season as UFV, having fallen to the TRU Wolfpack 2-0, before getting a 4-1 victory over the UBCO Heat. The two teams split their matches last season, with UBC taking a 1-0 victory on October 1, 2021, and the Cascades responding with a 5-1 victory just two days later.
QUOTABLE
"It's always a tough weekend up against two formidable opponents and going into two tough places to play. Going into Thunderfest in Victoria and having three thousand people there will be something we need to embrace and enjoy, but we need to focus on our jobs and the things that we need to do. UBC obviously had the bye last week, so they will be coming in fresh, and Victoria had a tough weekend against UNBC so they'll be looking to bounce back." –
UFV head coach Tom Lowndes on the upcoming matchups
"We are obviously disappointed with how the final four game went against them. I don't think we did ourselves justice, and we were a bit unlucky with some things that went against us, so it's obviously in the back of the mind, but with a new season and new players we are just taking it one game at a time. We'll focus on Friday night first and look to get a result, and then we will get ready to go again for UBC." –
