THE TEAMS
UFV (0-1-1) is coming off a bye week after opening the season with a loss to the UBC Thunderbirds before rebounding to pick up a draw against the Victoria Vikes.
Both of the Cascades' opponents this weekend are well acquainted already this year. The two teams have faced each other twice with MRU coming out on top in both matches by scores of 6-2 and 4-2.
It has been quite a while since the Cascades have faced either of these squads.
UFV's last matchup with MRU was a playoff clash on October 25, 2018, which saw the teams play to a 1-1 score line in regulation, where the cascades prevailed in a penalty shootout.
The 2017-2018 Canada West season was the last time that the Cascades faced the Pronghorns with the result going Lethbridge's way, 1-0.
QUOTABLE
"I think the players are excited to have an opportunity to play a couple institutions from out of province. We have scouted both opposition teams quite well, and they are teams that we know are going to be competitive. Both teams are organized, defensively sound, and have the ability to be a threat on offence, so we are excited, but we are also prepared." –
UFV head coach Niko Marcina

"From a mentality standpoint the bye week this early was probably a blessing in disguise. We had that time to collectively bring our thoughts together as a team and reset our mindset, and approach, for how competitive Canada West can be. The goal now is to bring the best version of ourselves, be competitive, and try to surpass the oppositions athleticism to get some quality goal scoring opportunities this weekend." –
